Are you obsessed with finding the perfect latte or cup of coffee, too? Before you spend $6 on a latte you won’t like – check out my compilation and reviews of the best coffee shops & breakfast spots in Lake Placid, NY!

I’m going to be honest – I’m fussy about my coffee. Most of us just get one cup a day.

Whether it’s drip coffee, an americano, a latte, matcha, flat white (what is that anyways?) or an espresso – it’s special and we want it (need it) to be great!

Same with breakfast. You’re like not going to have an egg sandwich for breakfast and dinner – you get one.

And with prices of both coffee and breakfast items through the roof these days we want to not only enjoy it but LOVE it.

That’s why I wanted to write this post to give you the info and save you from wasted bucks and half drunken cups!

I live in Connecticut but travel to Lake Placid to hike multiple times a year and have tried almost every cafe there is here.

Whether your taking your coffee and breakfast to go on a hike, up the slopes, your Airbnb, or eating in – you will find the best coffee & breakfast spot in Lake Placid that meets all your needs!

The BEST Breakfast & Coffee Shops in Lake Placid

1. Origins Coffee

  • 📍2669 Main St, Lake Placid
  • Google Ratings: 4.8 ⭐️
  • Food: Breakfast sandwiches, baked goods
  • Best overall for lattes & food
  • Pros: Roast their coffee weekly, “chef-driven menu” using local & organic ingredients, on Main St
  • Cons: long lines

Just writing about this place makes me jealous for those in line about to get something!

Origins is number one on this list because to me, and everyone else that’s rated it highly, it has the best latte on this list. I finished the WHOLE thing and that says a lot.

While Origins is at the start of Main Street (or end) in Lake Placid, the secret is out and the lines can be long depending on when you go.

The first time I wanted to visit I had to skip it because the line was to the door and we didn’t want to wait. Our mistake!

I tried the Sweater Weather Latte which consists of local maple syrup (got just half a shot, didn’t want it too sweet!), cinnamon, and cardamom. It was the perfect drink to bring on our morning walk and I still remember that last sip in the woods! It wasn’t warm anymore but darn, it was good…

I also tried the breakfast burrito and my husband Jared had an egg sandwich on a biscuit. Both were cooked fresh and were delicious, they really know what they’re doing here with both coffee and food.

2. Capisce Coffee & Espresso Bar

  • 📍5659 Cascade Road, Lake Placid
  • Google Rating: 4.9 ⭐️’s
  • Food: Smoothies, breakfast sandwiches, baked goods
  • Pros: Quality coffee, atmosphere, attention to detail
  • Cons: You will have to drive here

“Indulge in the rustic charm of Capisce Coffee, an enchanting Italian coffee house nestled in the heart of the scenic Adirondack Park.

At Capisce Coffee and Espresso Bar, we’re more than a café; we’re a haven committed to ethical living and eco-conscious choices. Experience Ethical Delights: Savor our meticulously brewed Italian coffee, crafted from ethically sourced, fair-traded beans. Every cup supports communities and flavors your day with purpose.”

Just outside of downtown Lake Placid (you will have to drive here) it’s a spot you’ll likely drive by barely noticing it’s there and will have to turn around and go back..

I love the vibe of this tiny place. It’s light and airy – when I went all the windows and doors were open. There are lots of plants around and they even have a rack of unique clothes that was fun to pick through as I waited for our order.

I tried the matcha and Jared had a latte. Luckily, they made an extra latte so I got to have that as well! 😍 (Thank you to the owner!)

I liked the latte but not as much as my latte was Origins. Maybe it was the ratio of oat milk to espresso (I got a small) but it was a little too bitter for me.

Capisce is definitely worth a try for the vibe and atmosphere and BAKED GOODS. I didn’t try but would’ve loved to have one of their homemade cinnamon rolls!

3. The Coffee Bar

  • 📍2527 Main Street, Lake Placid
  • Google Rating: 4.5 ⭐️’s
  • Food: Limited menu: Bagels, yogurt, an egg sandwich, and 3 lunch items.
  • Pros: Awesome views out back if you can get a seat, heart of downtown Lake Placid
  • Cons: Coffee doesn’t seem as high quality as above two shops

“With a serene backdrop of Mirror Lake and Whiteface Mountain, we provide swift, satisfying breakfast and lunch choices with a great view.”

The best part about The Coffee Bar is the location in downtown Lake Placid AND the views. 😍⛰

And when you poke around on their website you’ll see that the first thing they mention is their views and the sections about their coffee come…second. If you are a little fussy about coffee like me that is the order you will enjoy things here as well.

Their website says that their beans/coffee are ‘delivered fresh from the Adirondacks’ but I don’t know what that means and while they sell their beans they don’t go into detail about where they came from nor where they roast them.

This spot is definitely worth a visit and coffee to try if you’d like to sit on the deck overlooking Mirror Lake and have amazing views of the mountains in the distance.

It is also worth a visit if you are walking around the main hub downtown Main Street and don’t want to walk to the very end to Origins Coffee. 🙂

Overall message from me – come for the views and you might as well try a coffee, too!

4. Soulshine Bagel

  • 📍2526 Main Street, Lake Placid
  • Google Rating: 4.4 ⭐️’s
  • Food: Homemade bagels baked fresh daily, few lunch items and baked goods
  • Pros: Bagels and downtown Main Street location
  • Cons: Limited seating, small coffee selection

Soulshine Bagel is the perfect place to stop if you’re starving after a long hike. There may be a line but it goes quickly unlike the line you’ll likely find at Origins.

Located in the heart of downtown on Main Street you’ll likely be driving or walking right by it!

They do have lattes but the coffee menu and selection is more basic – you’re not going to find a matcha latte here or anything fancy.

They are great at simple egg sandwiches on their bagels which are hand-rolled, steamed, and baked fresh on the premises daily!

If you’re hungry and want a simple cup of coffee and an egg sandwich so you can get on with your day then stop here at Soulshine!

5. A New Leaf

  • 📍2364 Saranac Ave, Lake Placid
  • Google Rating: 4.0 ⭐️’s
  • Food: Breakfast sandwiches & a few baked goods
  • Pros: No long lines, just off Main St in downtown Lake Placid, great place to find a seat with kids
  • Cons: Ok coffee, just not the best on this list

A New Leaf coffee shop is right off the main strip in downtown Lake Placid.

This spot is located in a cute house that feels homey – you won’t find trendy or modern here! The furnishings inside are simple and make you feel like this coffee shop has been around a while.

There is no website so it was hard to find details about A New Leaf so I just have to go from experience. I got an oat milk latte and it was pretty good.

My impression from our order was that I wouldn’t seek out this spot again with Origins kind of stealing the spotlight for me.

What I would come here for is to sit and relax in a quiet space. Maybe bring a laptop or a book and find one of the many tables to do so work with your coffee.

Out of all the coffee shops and breakfast places on our list this one is the biggest and would be the best place to bring kids that want to sit down and eat or have a hot chocolate.
