Exploring the Trails at Flanders Nature Center
🥾Van Vleck Farm and Nature Sanctuary
The Van Vleck property has over 4 miles of well-marked (pedestrian-only) trails for year-round activities like hiking, wildlife observation, and snowshoeing.
I love the 2.2-mile Van Vleck Outer Loop which gives you a taste of all this old farm property has to offer.
Walk through open meadows and fields, along multiple ponds, shaded forests, and even a peaceul view with benches to sit!

Be sure to take the short detour to Botany Pond for a tranquil reflection and lots of pond life. 🐸
🥾Whittemore Sanctuary
This 3.8-mile loop around Whittemore Sanctuary is the highest rated (at 4.5 stars 🌟) of all the trails in Whittemore.
This 686-acre sanctuary features color-coded trails winding through expansive natural vistas, offering hikers a chance to immerse themselves in Connecticut’s diverse ecosystems.
The loop takes you by the highlights which include Lake Quassapaug, Blackmans Hill, and Big Cove.
