Living in Connecticut, I love mapping out where I want to visit on the weekends around the holidays. There are lots of charming New England towns to visit in winter. But we are lucky that CT has so many of its own!
With so many fun day trips to take in CT, this article highlights the towns that put on a special winter show! From train rides, to drive through light shows, and winter wonderlands to walk through both in and outdoors - there’s no shortage of places to find that cozy, holiday magic in CT.
So here’s your guide to the best holiday lights in Connecticut this season — from classic community displays to dazzling, large-scale events that are sure to get you in the holiday mood and feel like a kid again!

1. Mystic Holiday Lighted Boat Parade (one night only!)

The Mystic Holiday Lighted Boat Parade is one of the most magical winter traditions along the Connecticut shoreline. I finally made it there and was blown away. The excited rowds and buzz in the air, walking along the streets of downtown Mystic all alit, the tree lighting and festivities along Mystic River Park, and finally the lighted boat parade.


It is magical! And an amazing tradition to start with friends and family. Each year, boat owners deck out their vessels in twinkling lights, holiday décor, and creative themes before gliding down the Mystic River at dusk. Crowds gather along the riverfront and the iconic Bascule Bridge to watch the illuminated procession reflect across the water—it’s a truly enchanting sight that captures the cozy, small-town holiday spirit Mystic is known for.
Beyond the parade itself, the whole village comes alive with festive energy. Local shops stay open late, restaurants fill with cheerful diners, and carolers often stroll through the historic streets. The Mystic Holiday Lighted Boat Parade is a memorable way to kick off the season!


If you missed it don't worry - you can still catch downtown Mystic all lit up and maybe there will be a boat or two in the water with the lights on! 🙂 The dates for the boat parade change each year but it usually the last Saturday in November. 🗓️
2. Magic of Lights, East Hartford

- Location: Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, East Hartford
- Dates: Late November – early January (11/26/25 - 1/3/26)
- Tip: Go on a weeknight to avoid long weekend lines, and tune your radio to the synced holiday music station for the full experience.
The Magic of Lights is a mile-long drive-through show is filled with towering light tunnels, festive scenes, and larger-than-life holiday characters. It’s a family and dog-friendly favorite for all ages and that you can enjoy without leaving the warmth of your car!
3. Festival of Silver Lights – Meriden


- Location: Hubbard Park, Meriden
- Dates: Late November – early January (11/28/25 - 1/1/26)
- Tip: Pack hot cocoa and walk through the park to really take in the 350,000 glowing white lights and illuminated figures around Mirror Lake.
The Hubbard Park Festival of Silver Lights is a wondrous event that transforms the sprawling Hubbard Park into a glowing winter wonderland that’s free to visit and perfect for a relaxed evening stroll.
4. Fantasy of Lights – New Haven
- Location: Lighthouse Point Park, New Haven
- Dates: Mid-November – December 31 (11/21/25 - 12/31/25)
- Tip: Visit early in the season or on a weeknight to avoid traffic backups — and bring exact change for the entrance fee.
The Fantasy of Lights is a long-running New Haven tradition features more than 100,000 bulbs and animated displays — all in support of Goodwill of Southern New England. The seaside setting makes it extra charming.
5. Glow Hartford
- Location: Connecticut Convention Center
- Dates: Mid-November – end of December (11/21/25 - 12/23/25)
- Tip: Buy your timed-entry tickets online in advance to secure your slot. The event takes about 2 hours to walk through, and arriving early gives you more time to enjoy the light displays, market and photo-ops.
Glow Hartford is an immersive indoor holiday lights experience in downtown Hartford, featuring dazzling light gardens, interactive displays, and festive activities for all ages. Check out Santa’s Sleigh Adventure, wander through glowing mazes, and enjoy a seasonal market with food, drinks, and live entertainment. Perfect for families, couples, or friends, it’s one of the most magical ways to experience holiday lights in Connecticut this season!
6. Olde Mistick Village Holiday Lights Spectacular – Mystic

- Location: Olde Mistick Village, Mystic
- Dates: Mid-November – January (11/21/25 - 1/31/26)
- Tip: Grab dinner or dessert at one of the village restaurants, then stroll the shop-lined walkways under more than half a million twinkling lights.
The Holiday Lights Spectacular in Olde Mistick Village This open-air shopping village transforms into a glowing holiday town each year — perfect for an evening of lights, shopping, and festive spirit.
7. Hebron Lions Lights in Motion – Hebron
- Location: Hebron Lions Fairgrounds, Hebron
- Dates: Mid-November – January 1 (11/28/25 - 1/1/26)
- Tip: Go on a weeknight for a shorter wait time and make sure to have your radio ready — the lights are synchronized to holiday music. 🎶
The Hebron Lion Lights in Motion features more than a million lights along a mile-long route, this drive-through show is bright, fun, and totally immersive.
8. Winterfest and the Tunnel of Lights – Connecticut Trolley Museum, East Windsor
- Location: 58 North Road, East Windsor
- Dates: Late November – December 30 (11/28/25 - 12/30/25)
- Tip: Reserve tickets early — this event often sells out! Arrive before sunset to see the museum before your trolley ride through the twinkling tunnel.
Climb aboard a vintage trolley car for a one-of-a-kind Tunnel of Lights ride through dazzling holiday scenes. It’s a magical mix of nostalgia and sparkle. You can ride in one of the closed trolleys for a classic experience or, brave the cold and ride in an open air trolley to be fully immersed in the holiday magic!
9. Holiday Lights Festival at Lake Compounce – Bristol
- Location: Lake Compounce Amusement Park, Bristol
- Dates: Select weekends from late November – end of December (11/28/25 - 12/28/25)
- Tip: Dress warm and plan to spend a few hours enjoying rides, live shows, and the park’s 100-foot Christmas tree.
Lake Compounce goes all-in for the holidays with millions of lights, festive music, and themed entertainment at their Holiday Lights Festival. It’s perfect for families who want both thrill rides and twinkling beauty. This event will be ending after 2025 so get this this year before it ends!
10. Starry nights – Chester
- Location: Chester Village Center, Chester
- Dates: December through mid February
- Tip: Arrive early for parking and plan to explore the local shops — most stay open late with refreshments and live music.
"Starry Nights" in Chester, CT, is a festive holiday event and public art display where Main Street is decorated with oversized, illuminated stars handcrafted by local artist Christopher Owens. This beloved small-town tradition fills the charming streets of Chester with white warm lights, luminaries, and community spirit. - Location: Mill River Park, Stamford
- Dates: 11/24/25 - 12/24/25
- Tip: Bring your camera — the massive interactive Christmas tree and illuminated walkway are picture-perfect after sunset.
The Holiday Stroll is a festive walk-through experience features thousands of lights, 3D ornaments, and plenty of fun for kids and adults alike.
